ISLAMIC AL-JUMUAA REMINDER AND LEGACY GROUP (http://aljumaareminder.com/presents a warning against Nike products:

Nike (/ˈnaɪki/; Greek: Νίκη, “Victory”, pronounced [nǐːkɛː]), in ancient Greek religion, was a goddess who personified victory, also known as the Winged Goddess of Victory. The Roman equivalent was Victoria. Depending upon the time of various myths, she was described as the daughter of the Titan Pallas and the goddess Styx, and the sister of Kratos (Strength), Bia (Force), and Zelus (Zeal).

In ancient Roman religion, Victoria was the personified goddess of victory. She is the Roman equivalent of the Greek goddess Nike, and was associated with Bellona. She was adapted from the Sabine agricultural goddess Vacuna and had a temple on the Palatine Hill. The goddess Vica Pota was also sometimes identified with Victoria.

Unlike the Greek Nike, the goddess Victoria (Latin for “victory”) was a major part of Roman society. Multiple temples were erected in her honor. When her statue was removed in 382 CE by Emperor Gratianus there was much anger in Rome. She was normally worshiped by triumphant generals returning from war.

Also unlike the Greek Nike, who was known for success in athletic games such as chariot races, Victoria was a symbol of victory over death and determined who would be successful during war.

Recently Satan and friends have been thinking about reviving an old religion to practice in addition to Islam. Here’s how it would work:

  • They would take on the name of the Nicolaitans and as part of their worship; they would wear clothes with the name of their goddess printed on everything.
  • As the followers of their goddesses began to grow, they would incorporate under the name of the goddess and sell clothes with her name on it to turn a profit.
  • They will then use those profits to hire celebrities to endorse their goddess in order to encourage the youth to stand in line for hours and sometimes days to take the name of their goddess, only after paying us their hard earned money to do so.
  • The goddess I have in mind to accomplish all of this is the Greek goddess of victory, Nike.

Satan’s thought up plan above demonstrates a dark, but very true reality. There are sinister forces at work behind the scenes, working to convince us that things we wouldn’t normally do are OK. They spend billions of dollars on marketing to get us to believe what they want us to believe, and we fall for it hook line and sinker. However, if they presented it in the fashion above (pun intended), how many of us would still engage in it?

Have you ever wondered who the Nicolaitans were? Wouldn’t it be interesting if you learned that the entire concept behind Nike was originated by people that still worship a Greek goddess? How would you feel then, about wearing her name on your hats, shirts, shorts, and shoes? Would you give your kids hundreds of dollars to line up to buy the latest Jordan’s with Nike’s name on them?

The greatest spiritual deception is mixed in with things that seem like nothing more than innocent day to day activities, such as shopping for new clothes. I know that there are some out there thinking, “that’s not why I buy it.” So what? Let’s change the name Nike to Satan. Would you still make that excuse and do it then? The war we are in is not physical, but spiritual.

Ask yourself the following and really consider the answer: Would any of the Messengers of Allah wear the name of a Greek goddess on his clothes?

Does the above plan seem too feeble for the likes of Satan? Congratulations on noticing that because even Allah informs us of this; this is because many people have to be reminded that Satan’s plot is feeble. Unfortunately many people think too highly of Satan and think that such feeble plans are not deserving of him; Satan is underestimated and the same Satan ends up defeating such people using his same feeble plots.

Those who believe, fight in the Cause of Allah, and those who disbelieve, fight in the cause of Taghut (Satan, etc.). So fight you against the friends of Shaitan (Satan); Ever feeble indeed is the plot of Shaitan (Satan). (Qur’an 4:76)

O you who believe! Follow not the footsteps of Shaitan (Satan). And whosoever follows the footsteps of Shaitan (Satan), then, verily he commands Al-Fahsha’ [i.e. to commit indecency (illegal sexual intercourse, etc.)], and Al-Munkar [disbelief and polytheism (i.e. to do evil and wicked deeds; to speak or to do what is forbidden in Islam, etc.)]. And had it not been for the Grace of Allah and His Mercy on you, not one of you would ever have been pure from sins. But Allah purifies (guides to Islam) whom He wills, and Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower. (Qur’an 24:21)

There is only one path to Allah and all other paths are deviations. Is wearing a Nike symbol while knowing it is a symbol of a goddess part of the straight path?

And (also) those who spend of their substance to be seen of men, and believe not in Allah and the Last Day [they are the friends of Shaitan (Satan)], and whoever takes Shaitan (Satan) as an intimate; then what a dreadful intimate he has! (Qur’an 4:38)

Ayat 38 from the 4th Surah clearly informs us that people who spend of their substance to be seen of men have taken a dreadful intimate, Satan. Many people would rather choose a Nike t-shirt over a plain t-shirt because of the status. But wait, are they trying to gain status from men/goddesses instead of from Allah? This is exactly what it means to be seen of men. Not good. The Nike brand does not give one honour, power and glory because these don’t belong with Nike. All honour, power and glory belongs to Allah.

Those who take disbelievers for Auliya (protectors or helpers or friends) instead of believers, do they seek honour, power and glory with them? Verily, then to Allah belongs all honour, power and glory. (Qur’an 4:139)
