ISLAMIC AL-JUMUAA REMINDER AND LEGACY GROUP, (http://aljumaareminder.com/), some hadiths to pounder on:

Instead of writing an article for this week. We thought it would be best to just present some hadiths on a particular topic so that our readers can read on how our Prophet acted or spoke about a certain topic. Of course we will on resume writing articles but for now let us get used to reading about the Sunnah/Hadiths. Our topic for this week will be:

(Abu) Khalid Al-Walibi narrated from Abu Hurairah and he (one of the narrators) said: “I do not know except that he attributed it to the Prophet (ﷺ)” – “Allah says: ‘O son of Adam, devote yourself to My worship, and I will fill your heart with contentment and take care of your poverty; but if you do not do that, then I will fill your heart with worldly concerns and will not take care of your poverty.’” [Sunan Ibn Majah: Vol. 5, Book 37, Hadith 4107] [Hasan (Darussalam)]

‘Abdur-Rahman bin Aban bin ‘Uthman bin ‘Affan narrated that his father said: “Zaid bin Thabit departed from Marwan at mid-day. I said: ‘He has not sent him out at this time of the day except for something he asked.’ So I asked him, and he said: ‘He asked me about some things we heard from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: “Whoever is focused only on this world, Allah will confound his affairs and make him fear poverty constantly, and he will not get anything of this world except that which has been decreed for him. Whoever is focused on the Hereafter, Allah will settle his affairs for him and make him feel content with his lost, and his provision and worldly gains will undoubtedly come to him.” [Sunan Ibn Majah: Vol. 5, Book 37, Hadith 4105] [Sahih (Darussalam)]

‘Abdullah said: “I heard your Prophet (ﷺ) say: ‘Whoever focuses all his concerns on one thing, the Hereafter, Allah will relieve him of worldly concerns, but whoever has disparate concerns scattered among a number of worldly issues, Allah will not care in which of its valleys he died.’” [Sunan Ibn Majah: Vol. 5, Book 37, Hadith 4106] [Da’if (Darussalam)]

Anas bin Malik narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Whoever makes the Hereafter his goal, Allah makes his heart rich, and organizes his affairs, and the world comes to him whether it wants to or not. And whoever makes the world his goal, Allah puts his poverty right before his eyes, and disorganizes his affairs, and the world does not come to him, except what has been decreed for him.” [Jami` at-Tirmidhi: Vol. 4, Book 11, Hadith 2465][ Da’if (Darussalam)]

‘Umar said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: ‘If you were to rely upon Allah with the reliance He is due, you would be given provision like the birds: They go out hungry in the morning and come back with full bellies in the evening.” [Sunan Ibn Majah: Vol. 5, Book 37, Hadith 4164] [Hasan (Darussalam)]

Narrated `Aisha: The Prophet (ﷺ) used to seek refuge with Allah (by saying), “O Allah! I seek refuge with You from the affliction of the Fire and from the punishment in the Fire, and seek refuge with You from the affliction of the grave, and I seek refuge with You from the affliction of wealth, and I seek refuge with You from the affliction of poverty, and seek refuge with You from the affliction of Al-Masih Ad-Dajjal.” [Sahih al-Bukhari 6376]

Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Race to do works against seven. Are you waiting but for overwhelming poverty, or distracting richness, or debilitating illness, or babbling senility, or sudden death, or the Dajjal, so that hidden evil is what is awaited, or the Hour? The Hour is more calamitous and more bitter.” (Daif) [Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2306]

Abu Darda’ said: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came out to us when we were speaking of poverty and how we feared it. He said: ‘Is it poverty that you fear? By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, (the delights and luxuries of) this world will come to you in plenty, and nothing will cause the heart of anyone of you to deviate except that. By Allah, I am leaving you upon something like Bayda (white, bright, clear path) the night and day of which are the same.'” [Sunan Ibn Majah: Vol. 1, Book 1, Hadith 5][Hasan (Darussalam)]

Abdullah (bin Mas’ud) narrated that: The Messenger of Allah said: “Alternate between Hajj and Umrah; for those two remove poverty and sins just as the bellows removes filth from iron, gold, and silver – and there is no reward for Al-Hajj Al-Mabrur except for Paradise.” [Jami` at-Tirmidhi 810] [Hasan (Darussalam)]

Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas’ud: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: If one who is afflicted with poverty refers it to me, his poverty will not be brought to an end; but if one refers it to Allah, He will soon give him sufficiency, either by a speedy death or by a sufficiency which comes later. [Sunan Abi Dawud 1645][Sahih (Al-Albani)]

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah,: From the Prophet (ﷺ), that he used to say: “Allahumma inni a’udhu bika minal-qillati wal-faqri, wadh-dhillati wa a’udhu bika min azlima aw uzlam (O Allah, I seek refuge with You from want, poverty and humiliation, and I seek refuge with You from wronging others or being wronged.)” [Sunan an-Nasa’i 5462] [Sahih (Darussalam)]

Abul-Hasan narrated that ‘Amr bin Murrah said to Mu’awiyah: “I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying: ‘No Imam closes his door on one in need, dire straits and poverty, except that Allah closes the gates of the Heavens from his dire straits, his needs, and his poverty.’ So Mu’awiyah appointed a man to look after the needs of the people.” [Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1332][Hasan (Darussalam)]

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: “A man came to the Prophet and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, what kind of charity brings the greatest reward?’ He said: ‘To give in charity when you are healthy and feeling miserly, and fearing poverty and hoping for a long life. Do not wait until the (death rattle) reaches the throat and then say: “This is for so and so,” and it nearly became the property of so and so (the heirs).'” [Sunan an-Nasa’i 3611][Sahih (Darussalam)]

Al-Mustawrad bin Makhramah narrated that ‘Amir bin ‘Awf informed him- and he was an ally of Banu ‘Amr bin Lu’ay who had participated with The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) at(the battle of ) Badr, he said: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had dispatched Abu ‘Ubaidah bin Al-Jarrah, so he arrived with the wealth from Al-Bahrain. When the Ansar had heard of the arrival of Abu ‘Ubaidah they were attending Salat Al-Fajr. So the the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) performed the Salat and when he finished, they assembled before him. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) smiled when he saw them, then he said: ‘I think that you heard that Abu ‘Ubaidah has arrived with something?’ They said: ‘Yes O Messenger of Allah! ‘He said: ‘Then receive good news, and hope for what will please you. By Allah! It is not poverty that I fear for you, but what I fear for you is that the world will be presented for you just as it was presented for those before you, then you will compete for it, just as they competed for it, and it will destroy you, just as it destroyed them.’ [Jami` at-Tirmidhi – Vol. 4, Book 11, Hadith 2462] [Sahih (Darussalam)]
