ISLAMIC AL-JUMUAA REMINDER AND LEGACY GROUP, (http://aljumaareminder.com/), learning about the hearts of the disbelievers:

8 DESCRIPTIONS OF THE DISBELIEVER’S HEARTS IN THE QURAN + 2 more

اَلْمَرَضُ – Sickness/Illness

In their hearts is a disease (of doubt and hypocrisy) and Allah has increased their disease. A painful torment is theirs because they used to tell lies. (Qur’an 2:10)

…………………………………………………………………………………..

اَلْخَتَمُ – A seal that is completely closed off. Notice that this same word is used in (Qur’an 33:40) to show that Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) is the last/seal of the prophets.

Allah has set a seal on their hearts and on their hearings, (i.e. they are closed from accepting Allah’s Guidance), and on their eyes there is a covering. Theirs will be a great torment. (Qur’an 2:7)

…………………………………………………………………………………..

الْطَّبَعُ – A seal that isn’t completely closed for good and has a possibility of coming off because from some of these types of people is some that will think and ponder and return to their Master in repentance.

That is because they believed, then disbelieved, therefore their hearts are sealed, so they understand not. (Qur’an 63:3)

…………………………………………………………………………………..

اَلْحَمِيَّةُ – A sense of self-worth/prejudice – the gang – mentality of ignorance [racism, nationalism etc]. Something you are very protective over and take great pride in. Like an elite restaurant can’t possibly allow entrance to someone dressed like a beggar.

When those who disbelieve had put in their hearts pride and haughtiness, the pride and haughtiness of the time of ignorance, then Allah sent down His Sakinah (calmness and tranquillity) upon His Messenger and upon the believers, and made them stick to the word of piety (i.e. none has the right to be worshipped but Allah), and they were well entitled to it and worthy of it. And Allah is the All-Knower of everything. (Qur’an 48:26)

…………………………………………………………………………………..

اَلْمُنْكِرَةُ – Denial

Your Ilah (God) is One Ilah (God Allah, none has the right to be worshipped but He). But for those who believe not in the Hereafter, their hearts deny (the faith in the Oneness of Allah), and they are proud. (Qur’an 16:22)

…………………………………………………………………………………..

اَلْاِنْصِرَاف – Leaving and turning away.

Their hearts turned away from the deen/truth

And whenever there comes down a Surah (chapter from the Qur’an), they look at one another (saying): “Does any one see you?” Then they turn away. Allah has turned their hearts (from the light) because they are a people that understand not. (Qur’an 9:127)

…………………………………………………………………………………..

الْقَسْوَةُ – Hardness

Is he whose breast Allah has opened to Islam, so that he is in light from His Lord (as he who is non-Muslim)? So, woe to those whose hearts are hardened against remembrance of Allah! They are in plain error! (Qur’an 39:22)

…………………………………………………………………………………..

اَلْرَّيْنُ – In the Arabic Language it means rust on top of something. It is used to describe a blackened heart due to sins that forms a covering.

Nay! But on their hearts is the Ran (covering of sins and evil deeds) which they used to earn. (Qur’an 83:14)

…………………………………………………………………………………..

Please note that the Ayats above are not the only Ayats in the Qur’an that depict the 8 descriptions of the hearts of the disbelievers. The above are just examples.

The following are not exactly referred to the hearts of disbelievers but one can indirectly see the connection between the hearts and descriptions.

…………………………………………………………………………………..

اَلْضِّيْقُ – Tightness/Narrowness/Constriction

Whoever Allah misguides their chest becomes tight and he feels restricted as though he was climbing a mountain. As you go higher up in the air is thinner so it is difficult to breathe and it becomes increasingly uncomfortable. This is used to depict how the unbeliever feels a feeling of great discomfort when religion is mentioned.

And whomsoever Allah wills to guide, He opens his breast to Islam, and whomsoever He wills to send astray, He makes his breast closed and constricted, as if he is climbing up to the sky. Thus Allah puts the wrath on those who believe not. (Qur’an 6:125)

…………………………………………………………………………………..

اَلْمَوتُ – Dead/No life

Is he who was dead (without Faith by ignorance and disbelief) and We gave him life (by knowledge and Faith) and set for him a light (of Belief) whereby he can walk amongst men, like him who is in the darkness (of disbelief, polytheism and hypocrisy) from which he can never come out? Thus it is made fair-seeming to the disbelievers that which they used to do. (Qur’an 6:122)
