ISLAMIC AL-JUMUAA REMINDER AND LEGACY GROUP, (http://aljumaareminder.com/), the pathways to your rizq:

Now, before we present this narration/story of Ali; it is important for us to first admit that we could not track down it’s source/authenticity.  We first heard of this story from Mufti Hussain Kamani from his series of 40 Hadith of Imam An-Nawawi but we can’t remember from which part exactly and so we had to search for the story via google and found something similar to it. Just because we could not track down the story’s source/authenticity does not mean that it does not have a source/authenticity if it really does have a source/authenticity.

The narration/story:

One day, Imam Ali Ibn Talib Radi Allahu anhu stopped his horse near the door of the Masjid to pray. He found a man standing near the majid, he asked to take care of the horse and the saddle on the horse.

The man coveted in the saddle and stole it then sold it in the Souk (Market).

When Ali Radi Allahu anhu finished praying he didn’t find the man nor the saddle! So he went to the souk to buy another saddle. He was surprised to find his saddle there.

He asked the seller:- How much does it cost?

The Seller replied :- 10 dirhams

Ali Ibn Talib asked the Seller – How much does the owner sell it to you?

The Seller replied:- 5 dirhams

Ali Ibn Talib bought then his Saddle and said:- SubhanaAllaah, I had the intention to give him 5 dirhams for being trustworthy, but he stole it and sold it . If he didn’t hasten to get his Rizk with haraam he would get it in Halaal.

There are many lessons that can be obtained from the narration above; but one main lesson is that a person can’t die until rizq that was written for him ends.

It was narrated from Jabir bin ‘Abdullah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “O people, fear Allah and be moderate in seeking a living, for no soul will die until it has received all its provision, even if it is slow in coming. So fear Allah and be moderate in seeking provision; take that which is permissible and leave that which is forbidden. ” [Sunan Ibn Majah: Vol. 3, Book 12, Hadith 2144][Sahih (Darussalam)]

In the narration above; you have a scenario in which a person chose to obtain his rizq in a haraam (impermissible) manner. This is similar to one who turns down halaal (permissible) jobs and later on earns his income via haraam sources such as gambling. There are also many people who turn down haraam jobs and because they must get their rizq before dying; they get their rizq via halaal means.

There are many Ayat from the Qur’an and ahadith which explain about rizq and what influences how one gets rizq. We will display a few:

And the earth We spread out, and placed therein firm mountains, and caused to grow therein all kinds of things in due proportion. And We have provided therein means of living, for you and for those whom you provide not. And there is not a thing, but with Us are the stores thereof. And We send it not down except in a known measure. And We send the winds fertilizing (to fill heavily the clouds with water), then caused the water (rain) to descend from the sky, and We gave it to you to drink, and it is not you who are the owners of its stores. And certainly We! We it is Who give life, and cause death , and We are the Inheritors. And indeed, We know the first generations of you who had passed away, and indeed, We know the present generations of you, and also those who will come afterwards. And verily, your Lord will gather them together. Truly, He is All-Wise, All-Knowing. (Qur’an 15: 19-25)

And if Allah were to enlarge the provision for His slaves, they would surely rebel in the earth, but He sends down by measure as He wills. Verily! He is in respect of His slaves, the Well-Aware, the All-Seer (of things that benefit them). (Qur’an 42:27)

So from (Qur’an 42:27), we can now understand the hadith below from At-Tirmidhi.:

At-Tirmidhi (2465) narrated that Anas ibn Maalik said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever is mainly concerned about the Hereafter, Allah will make him feel independent of others and will make him focused and content, and his worldly affairs will fall into place. But whoever is mainly concerned with this world, Allah will make him feel in constant need of others and will make him distracted and unfocused, and he will get nothing of this world except what is decreed for him.”[Sahih (Al-Albani)]

Perhaps if we are not mistaken; the only reason those who focus on the Hereafter are given more than is decreed is because they don’t rebel on the earth. Remember Allah can provide without limit in this world as seen in (Qur’an 3:37) & He sends down as He wills as seen in (Qur’an 42:27)

Allah blots out what He wills and confirms (what He wills). And with Him is the Mother of the Book (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). (Qur’an 13:39)
