ISLAMIC AL-JUMUAA REMINDER AND LEGACY GROUP (http://aljumaareminder.com/) exposes the origins of Magicians:

MAGICIANS – Part 1 – Where did they come from and what is their fate in the Hereafter if no true repentance is done?

And indeed We have sent down to you manifest Ayat (these Verses of the Qur’an), and none disbelieve in them but Fasiqun (those who rebel against Allah’s Command). Is it not (the case) that every time they make a covenant, some party among them throw it aside? Nay! the truth is most of them believe not. And when there came to them a Messenger from Allah (i.e. Muhammad Peace be upon him ) confirming what was with them, a party of those who were given the Scripture threw away the Book of Allah behind their backs as if they did not know! (Qur’an 2:99-101)

They followed what the Shayatin (devils) gave out (falsely of the magic) in the lifetime of Sulaiman (Solomon). Sulaiman did not disbelieve, but the Shayatin (devils) disbelieved, teaching men magic/witchcraft and such things that came down at Babylon to the two angels, Harut and Marut, but neither of these two (angels) taught anyone (such things) till they had said, “We are only for trial/tempt/trial, so disbelieve not (by learning this magic from us).” And from these (angels) people learn that by which they cause separation between man and his wife, but they could not thus harm anyone except by Allah’s Leave. And they learn that which harms them and profits them not. And indeed they knew that the buyers of it (magic) would have no share in the Hereafter. And how bad indeed was that for which they sold their ownselves, if they but knew. (Qur’an 2:102)

And if they had believed, and guarded themselves from evil and kept their duty to Allah, far better would have been the reward from their Lord, if they but knew! (Qur’an 2:103)

Babylon is where magic originated from. The first magicians learned it from the two angels Harut and Marut and has since then been transferred through generations and still exists to this day in different forms. These first magicians are of course before Musa was born, before even Ibrahim was born.  It is also important to point out that it is very rare for Allah to mention names of cities and towns in the Quran unless it is really important. All forms of magic that exist today somehow all goes back to Babylon.

The two angels Harut and Marut who are of course obedient to Allah, never taught anyone magic/witchcraft till they had warned the people by saying, “We are only for trial/tempt/trial, so disbelieve not.” The angels spoke the truth; in the whole of the Quran the word Magic/Witchcraft (Arabic Sihr) occurs 60 times and so does the word Tempt/Test/Trial (Arabic Fitnah) which also occurs 60 times. Allah made it so in His Last Message to show that Magic/Witchcraft really is for Trial/Tempt/Trial as the angels were commanded to say.

Unfortunately despite the warning people learned magic and hence became magicians. It should be noted that these magicians and their magic could not harm anyone except by Allah’s leave which is quite logical. Allah is the one who sent the angels to teach mankind magic as a trial after warning the learners; it is therefore logical that He (Allah) can nullify it as He sees fit anytime.

They ask you concerning alcohol drink and gambling. Say: “In them is a great sin, and (some) benefit for men, but the sin of them is greater than their benefit.” And they ask you what they ought to spend. Say: “That which is beyond your needs.” Thus Allah makes clear to you His Laws in order that you may give thought.” (Qur’an 2:219)

In the Ayat (Qur’an 2:219) above we can see that alcohol drink and gambling has some benefit for men but the sin of them outweighs their benefit. Magic has no benefits whatsoever; Allah says that they learn that which harms them and profits them not. What is the ultimate harm? The ultimate harm is to lose your Faith (Iman).

Learning Magic is Kufr (disbelief) {Tafseer Ibn Kathir}:  Abu Ja` far Ar-Razi said that Ar-Rabi’ bin Anas said that Qays bin ` Abbad said that Ibn ` Abbas said, “When someone came to the angels to learn magic, they would discourage him and say to him, `We are only a test , so do not fall into disbelief . ‘ They had knowledge of what is good and evil and what constitutes belief or disbelief, and they thus knew that magic is a form of disbelief . When the person who came to learn magic still insisted on learning it , they commanded him to go to such and such place, where if he went , Satan would meet him and teach him magic. When this man would learn magic, the light (of faith) would depart him, and he would see it shining (and flying away) in the sky. He would then proclaim, `O my sorrow! Woe unto me! What should I do? ” Al-Hasan Al-Basri said that this Ayah means, “The angels were sent with magic, so that the people whom Allah willed would be tried and tested. Allah made them promise that they would not teach anyone until first proclaiming, `We are a test for you, do not fall into disbelief . ”’ It was recorded by Ibn Abi Hatim. Also, Qatadah said, “Allah took their covenant to not teach anyone magic until they said, `We are a test . Therefore, do not fall in disbelief . ”’

Also, As-Suddi said, “When a man would come to the two angels they would advise him, ` Do not fall into disbelief . We are a test . ‘ When the man would ignore their advice, they would say, `Go to that pile of ashes and urinate on it . ‘ When he would urinate on the ashes, a light , meaning the light of faith, would depart from him and would shine until it entered heaven. Then something black that appeared to be smoke would descend and enter his ears and the rest of his body, and this is Allah’s anger. When he told the angels what happened, they would teach him magic. So Allah’s statement, (But neither of these two (angels) taught anyone (such things) t ill they had said, “We are for trial, so disbelieve not (by learning this magic from us). ) Sunayd said that Hajjaj said that Ibn Jurayj commented on this Ayah (2:102), “No one dares practice magic except a disbeliever. As for the Fitnah, it involves trials and freedom of choice. ”The scholars who stated that learning magic is disbelief relied on this Ayah for evidence. They also mentioned the Hadith that Abu Bakr Al-Bazzar recorded from ` Abdullah, which states,

(Whoever came to a soothsayer or a sorcerer and believed in what he said, will have disbelieved in what Allah revealed to Muhammad. ) This Hadith has an authentic chain of narration and there are other Hadiths which support it.

From the book “Secret Teachings of All Ages: Theory and Practice of Black Magic” written by Manly P Hall (33 degree Freemason: The highest level in Freemasonry) states: In his book Manly P Hall admitted that throughout history magicians have sold their souls to the devils and in return they receive special powers during their short time on earth. In his book he says in the following points:

Manly’s First Point: The visible universe has an invisible counterpart, the higher planes of which are peopled by good and beautiful spirits; the lower planes, dark and foreboding, are the habitation of evil spirits and demons under the leadership of the Fallen Angel and his ten Princes.

IARLG Comments on Manly’s first point: These spirits, fallen angels and ten princes referred here are all jinn (see http://aljumaareminder.com/reminder/the-impact-of-jinns-on-mankind-7-worshiping-angels-who-in-reality-are-jinns-date-28th-august-2015-12th-or-13th-dhu-al-qada-1436/ ). It is true that there are righteous and rebellious jinns as can be seen in Ayats (Qur’an 72:11, 14-15) below where Allah recorded what the jinns said. We don’t know about the jinns’ different locations and how they are distributed according to their faith:

‘There are among us some that are righteous, and some the contrary; we are groups having different ways (religious sects). (Qur’an 72:11)

‘And of us some are Muslims (who have submitted to Allah, after listening to this Quran), and of us some are Al-Qaitun (disbelievers – those who have deviated from the Right Path)’. And whosoever has embraced Islam, then such have sought the Right Path.” And as for the Qasitun, they shall be firewood for Hell, (Qur’an 72:14-15)

Manly’s Second Point: By means of the secret processes of ceremonial magic it is possible to contact these invisible creatures and gain their help in some human undertaking. Good spirits willingly lend their assistance to any worthy enterprise, but the evil spirits serve only those who live to pervert and destroy.

IARLG Comments on Manly’s Second point: We are not going to speak about these disgusting rituals and ceremonies now. We agree that these jinns can see us while we can’t see them as can be seen in the Ayat (Qur’an 7:27) below. There is no such thing as good jinns/spirits lending their assistance directly to mankind; Muslims jinns know that it is haram to communicate and help humans directly. The jinns who are Muslim and do so either have no knowledge or are doing a sin and have to repent. The jinns assist mankind indirectly by spreading Islam amongst themselves; hence the more Muslim jinns, the more jinns avoid misleading humans. Who knows, they probably even minimize the damage to mankind indirectly by dealing with the non-righteous jinns. We Muslims rely only on Allah as can be seen in the Ayat (Qur’an 4:45) below:

…Verily, he (Satan) and Qabiluhu (his soldiers from the jinn or his tribe) see you from where you cannot see them…(Qur’an 7:27)

Allah has full knowledge of your enemies, and Allah is Sufficient as a Wali (Protector), and Allah is Sufficient as a Helper. (Qur’an 4:45)

Manly’s Third Point It is possible to make contracts with spirits whereby the magician becomes for a stipulated time the master of an elemental being.

IARLG Comments on Manly’s Third point: We agree on this but we are not going to explain in detail how now. The hadith below affirms that the magician and the jinn(s) work together.

Sahih al-Bukhari -> Medicine: Narrated ‘Aisha: Some people asked Allah’s Apostle about fore-tellers. He said. ‘They are nothing” They said, “O Allah’s Apostle! Sometimes they tell us of a thing which turns out to be true.” Allah’s Apostle said, “A jinn snatches that true word and pours it into the ear of his friend (the fore-teller) (as one puts something into a bottle) The foreteller then mixes with that word one hundred lies.”

Sahih al-Bukhari -> Beginning of Creation: Narrated ‘Aisha: I heard Allah’s Apostle saying, “The angels descend, the clouds and mention this or that matter decreed in the Heaven. The devils listen stealthily to such a matter, come down to inspire the soothsayers with it, and the later would add to it one hundred lies of their own.”

Manly’s Fourth Point True black magic is performed with the aid of a demoniacal spirit, who serves the sorcerer for the length of his earthly life, with the understanding that after death the magician shall become the servant of his own demon. For this reason a black magician will go to inconceivable ends to prolong his physical life, since there is nothing for him beyond the grave.

IARLG Comments on Manly’s Fourth point: All we can say is please re-read the following Ayats:

…And indeed they knew that the buyers of it (magic) would have no share in the Hereafter. And how bad indeed was that for which they sold their ownselves, if they but knew. (Qur’an 2:102)

And if they had believed, and guarded themselves from evil and kept their duty to Allah, far better would have been the reward from their Lord, if they but knew! (Qur’an 2:103)

One might think this is way too stupid for one to do. Let us take a step back and not criticize these magicians for entering into such a contract. Let us look at ourselves; how many times have we committed a sin knowing that we are not supposed to do so but did so anyways? If we are truthful, it is many times. This choice of disobeying Allah is caused by many factors such as lack of patience, following desires, being desperate, forgetting and much more. Let us make a true repentance.

Next week we will In Shaa Allah look at some of the Magic done by Magicians and prove that there is no such thing as white/good magic and black/evil magic. All forms of magic is kufr.
