ISLAMIC AL-JUMUAA REMINDER AND LEGACY GROUP (http://aljumaareminder.com/) reminds of the benefits of Taubah:

Please forgive the 2-page reminder; we felt this was an important topic which should not be broken up in parts.

BENEFITS OF TAUBAH FROM THE QURAN;

There are many benefits of Taubah from the Quran and Sunnah but we are going to provide some of the benefits directly from the Quran. We are not downgrading the Sunnah because Allah swears by Himself as follows:

But no, by your Lord, they can have no Faith, until they make you (O Muhammad SAW) judge in all disputes between them, and find in themselves no resistance against your decisions, and accept (them) with full submission. (Qur’an 4:65)

We are just trying to highlight some benefits of Taubah in Islam and not all of them.

People often forget the importance of the simple yet powerful dua – Istighfar i.e., saying “Astaghfirullah” (I seek forgiveness of Allah). Prophet Muhammad (SAW) recited this at least 100 times a day. First we need to know that Allah wants to accept our forgiveness and has appointed angels specifically to seek forgiveness for us: … Verily, He is the One Who forgives (accepts repentance), the Most Merciful. (Qur’an 2:37)

Allah wishes to make clear (what is lawful and what is unlawful) to you, and to show you the ways of those before you, and accept your repentance, and Allah is All-Knower, All-Wise.  Allah wishes to accept your repentance, but those who follow their lusts, wish that you (believers) should deviate tremendously away from the Right Path. Allah wishes to lighten (the burden) for you; and man was created weak. (Qur’an 4:26-28)

Nearly the heavens might rent asunder from above them (by His Majesty), and the angels glorify the praises of their Lord, and ask for forgiveness for those on the earth, verily, Allah is the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful. (Qur’an 42:5)

O you who believe! Remember Allah with much remembrance. And glorify His Praises morning and afternoon. He it is Who sends Salat (His blessings) on you, and His angels too (ask Allah to bless and forgive you), that He may bring you out from darkness (of disbelief and polytheism) into light (of Belief and Islamic Monotheism). And He is Ever Most Merciful to the believers. (Qur’an 33:41-43)

We are going to mention some Ayats from the Quran which show the benefits we gain from seeking forgiveness

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

The first benefit of Taubah from the Quran

The 1st benefit of repentance is that Allah will forgive you. It has to be sincere; you can’t play games with Allah

So glorify the Praises of your Lord, and ask for His Forgiveness. Verily, He is the One Who accepts the repentance and forgives. (Qur’an 110:3)

But whosoever repents after his crime and does righteous good deeds (by obeying Allah), then verily, Allah will pardon him (accept his repentance). Verily, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Qur’an 5:39)

Allah accepts only the repentance of those who do evil in ignorance and foolishness and repent soon afterwards; it is they to whom Allah will forgive and Allah is Ever All-Knower, All-Wise. And of no effect is the repentance of those who continue to do evil deeds until death faces one of them and he says: “Now I repent;” nor of those who die while they are disbelievers. For them We have prepared a painful torment. (Qur’an 4:17-18)

Or have they plotted some plan? Then We too are planning. (Qur’an 43:79)

But Allah will not forgive shirk if you died upon shirk in the Hereafter and He will have no mercy on the disbelievers in the Hereafter.

Declare (O Muhammad SAW) unto My slaves, that truly, I am the Oft-Forgiving, the Most-Merciful. And that My Torment is indeed the most painful torment. (Qur’an 15:49-50)

Verily, Allah forgives not that partners should be set up with him in worship, but He forgives except that (anything else) to whom He pleases, and whoever sets up partners with Allah in worship, he has indeed invented a tremendous sin. (Qur’an 4:48)

He punishes whom He will, and shows mercy to whom He will, and to Him you will be returned. And you cannot escape in the earth or in the heaven. And besides Allah you have neither any Wali (Protector or Guardian) nor any Helper. And those who disbelieve in the Ayat of Allah and the Meeting with Him, it is they who have no hope of My Mercy, and it is they who will (have) a painful torment. (Qur’an 29:21-23)

The second benefit of Taubah from the Quran

The 2nd benefit is that Allah will love and praise you (Imagine being called an excellent slave by Allah):

…Truly, Allah loves those who turn unto Him in repentance and loves those who purify themselves. (Qur’an 2:222)

And to Dawud We gave Sulaiman. How excellent (a) slave! Verily, he was ever oft-returning in repentance (to Us)! (Qur’an 38:30)

Verily, Ibrahim was, without doubt, forbearing, used to invoke Allah with humility, and was repentant. (Qur’an 11:75)

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

The third benefit of Taubah from the Quran

The 3rd benefit is that Allah will guide you and you will be successful:

Say: “Verily, Allah sends astray whom He wills and guides unto Himself those who turn to Him in repentance.” (Qur’an 13:27)

…And all of you beg Allah to forgive you all, O believers, that you may be successful. (Qur’an 24:31)

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

The fourth benefit of Taubah from the Quran

The 4th benefit of Taubah is that you will receive Allah’s Mercy:

He (Salih) said: “O my people! Why do you seek to hasten the evil (torment) before the good (Allah’s Mercy)? Why seek you not the Forgiveness of Allah, that you may receive mercy?” (Qur’an 27:46)

And say (O Muhammad SAW): “My Lord! Forgive and have mercy, for You are the Best of those who show mercy!” (Qur’an 23:118)

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

The fifth benefit of Taubah from the Quran

The 5th benefit of Taubah is that Allah will grant you good enjoyment for a term appointed.

And: “Seek the forgiveness of your Lord, and turn to Him in repentance, that He may grant you good enjoyment, for a term appointed, and bestow His abounding Grace to every owner of grace. But if you turn away, then I fear for you the torment of a Great Day. (Qur’an 11:3)

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

The sixth benefit of Taubah from the Quran

The 6th benefit of Taubah is that Allah will send you abundant rain and add strength to your strength. The Ummah is now weak because many of us don’t make enough Istighfar. Let us leave sin and stop making philosophical excuses and make true/sincere repentance to Allah.

And to ‘Ad (people We sent) their brother Hud. He said, “O my people! Worship Allah! You have no other Ilah (God) but Him. Certainly, you do nothing but invent (lies)! O my people I ask of you no reward for it (the Message). My reward is only from Him, Who created me. Will you not then understand?”And O my people! Ask forgiveness of your Lord and then repent to Him, He will send you (from the sky) abundant rain, and add strength to your strength, so do not turn away as Mujrimun (criminals, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah).” (Qur’an 11:50-52)

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

The seventh benefit of Taubah from the Quran

The 7th benefit of Taubah is that Allah will send rain in abundance and give you increase in wealth and children and bestow on you gardens and bestow on you rivers.

“I (Nuh) said (to them): ‘Ask forgiveness from your Lord; Verily, He is Oft-Forgiving; He will send rain to you in abundance; and give you increase in wealth and children, and bestow on you gardens and bestow on you rivers.’ What is [the matter] with you that you do not attribute to Allah [due] grandeur” (Qur’an 71:10-13)

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

The eighth benefit of Taubah from the Quran

The 8th benefit of Taubah is that Allah is that He will change the sin(s) of believers into good deeds. The sins that will be converted are most likely the one for invoking any other god with Allah, killing, and committing illegal sexual intercourse. [And Allah knows best]

And those who invoke not any other ilah (god) along with Allah, nor kill such person as Allah has forbidden, except for just cause, nor commit illegal sexual intercourse and whoever does this shall receive the punishment. (Qur’an 25:68)

The torment will be doubled to him on the Day of Resurrection, and he will abide therein in disgrace; except those who repent and believe, and do righteous deeds; for those, Allah will change their sins into good deeds, and Allah is Ever Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Qur’an 25:69-70)

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

The ninth benefit of Taubah from the Quran

The 9th benefit of Taubah is that Allah will grant you an increase in the reward for your good deeds. This may be in either doing more good deeds or in doing deeds and them having much more rewards than before.

And (remember) when We said: “Enter this town (Jerusalem) and eat bountifully therein with pleasure and delight wherever you wish, and enter the gate in prostration and say: ‘Forgive us,’ and We shall forgive you your sins and shall increase (reward) for the good-doers.” (Qur’an 2:58)

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

Say: “O ‘Ibadi (My Slaves) who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah: verily, Allah forgives all sins. Truly He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Qur’an 39:53)
