Islam

The word Islam means voluntary “Submission” or “Surrender” to the Will of God. It derives from the root word “salam,” meaning peace. In the Quran, God defines that the only purpose for which He created mankind is to Worship Him. Islam recognizes that humankind has free choice in whether to obey or disobey God, but ultimately we will be held accountable to God in the next life for the choices that we make in this life.

Note1: Muslims often refer to God as Allah. This is a universal name for God and does not refer to an exclusively ‘Islamic’ God.

Note2: If you want to be a Muslim you should simply say sincerely the following: “La ilaha illallah, Muhammad-ur-Rasul-Allah” (None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and Muhammad {S.A.W} is the Messenger of Allah). Saying this sincerely is all it takes to be a Muslim.

Islamic position on Prophets:

God sent Prophets to teach mankind how to worship Him alone; starting with Adam, including Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and the last of the messengers, Muhammad (peace be upon them all). The Islamic position is that all of these prophets came with the same message, that there is no deity worthy of worship except the One True God, known in Arabic as Allah.

Islam places great importance in the belief that the soul gives life to a human body. Likewise, in its absence, the human body dies and disintegrates. However, the soul is eternal and will be reunited with the body on the Day of Resurrection, when God will raise everyone to answer for their deeds on earth. Islam encourages the individual to focus on keeping the soul healthy, through the remembrance, obedience and worship of God. There should be a correct balance in strengthening the soul and not over-indulging with the pleasures of the body.

Islam: A way of life:

Islam is a natural way of life that encourages one to give due attention to their relationship with God and His creation. Islam teaches that it is through the doing of good deeds and seeking the pleasure of God that souls find true happiness and peace. It is in this context that the word Islam derives from the root word “salam,” or peace.

Islam is a religion which has existed since the beginning of time of Adam:

Since Prophet Adam {S.A.W} till Prophet Muhammad {S.A.W}; the only religion accepted by Allah is Islam. Some/Many Prophets might not have heard the word Islam but they would certainly agree that they submit to Allah which is exactly what Islam means and teaches.

Truly the religion with Allah is Islam. …. (Qur’an 3:19)

And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers. (Qur’an 3:85)

Islam as we have stated many times before, means submission to Allah’s Will. There are only two paths and two results:

  • Follow Islam, meaning submit to Allah’s Will and the result will be Paradise by Allah’s Mercy. There is only one straight path/way/religion to paradise and all the other paths/ways/religions are not recognized and lead you astray.
  • Follow other paths/ways/religions {other than Islam} which are governed by Iblis/Satan and the result will be Hell if Allah does not grant you His Mercy. Religion is a way of life; the only religion that will be accepted by Allah will be Islam.

This is understandable since we were created only to worship Allah and we have taken a contract with Allah. The Quran insisted that it’s a reminder for the deal/contract that we already made with God which we are living now.

And (remember) when your Lord brought forth from the Children of Adam, from their loins, their seed (or from Adam’s loin his offspring) and made them testify as to themselves (saying): “Am I not your Lord?” They said: “Yes! We testify,” lest you should say on the Day of Resurrection: “Verily, we have been unaware of this. Or lest you should say: “It was only our fathers aforetime who took others as partners in worship along with Allah, and we were (merely their) descendants after them; will You then destroy us because of the deeds of men who practiced Al-Batil (i.e. polytheism and committing crimes and sins, invoking and worshipping others besides Allah)?” (Tafsir At-Tabari). (Qur’an 7:172-173)

This temporary universe is a test and you are in it to find your way back to a realm you already knew about in a higher dimension and to be immortal in it (Paradise).

We said: “Get down all of you from this place (the Paradise), then whenever there comes to you Guidance from Me, and whoever follows My Guidance, there shall be no fear on them, nor shall they grieve. But those who disbelieve and belie Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) such are the dwellers of the Fire, they shall abide therein forever. (Qur’an 2:38-39)

These are the Verses of Allah: We recite to you in truth, and Allah wills no injustice to the ‘Alamin {mankind, jinn and all that exists} (Qur’an 3:108)

Say (O Muslims), “We believe in Allah and that which has been sent down to us and that which has been sent down to Ibrahim, Ismail, Ishaq, Ya’qub (Jacob) and to Al-Asbat [the offspring of the twelve sons of Ya’qub], and that which has been given to Musa and Isa (Jesus), and that which has been given to the Prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we have submitted.” (Qur’an 2:136)

Allah fulfilled His promise, He sent the Quran and many messages before it to remind you of the deal and guide you back to Him.

Verily, this is an admonition, therefore whosoever wills, let him take a Path to His Lord! (Qur’an 73:19)

Verily, this (the Quran) is no less than a Reminder to (all) the ‘Alamin (mankind and jinns and all that exists). (Qur’an 81:27)

Allah did NOT force us. We foolishly accepted while many creatures refused.

Truly, We did offer AlAmanah (the trust or moral responsibility or honesty and all the duties which Allah has ordained) to the heavens and the earth, and the mountains, but they declined to bear it and were afraid of it (i.e. afraid of Allah’s Torment). But man bore it. Verily, he was unjust (to himself) and ignorant (of its results). (Qur’an 33:72)

Other creatures declined because the risk is terrifying. If you are able to make a choice and make the wrong one “now”…

And those who break the Covenant of Allah, after its ratification, and sever that which Allah has commanded to be joined, and work mischief in the land, on them is the curse; And for them is the unhappy (evil) home (i.e. Hell). (Qur’an 13:25)

Unfortunately any people will remember the deal too late.

And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? (Qur’an 89:23)

Prophet Muhammad {S.A.W} has been sent to the ‘Alamin {mankind, jinn and all that exists} as a bringer of glad tidings and a warner. The Good news is that Allah will welcome us back to Paradise if we follow what He has sent down and His Messenger (Muhammad {S.A.W}).

(It will be said by Allah to the pious – believers of Islamic Monotheism): “O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! Come back to your Lord – well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing (to Him)! Enter you then among My (honoured) slaves, And enter you My Paradise!” (Qur’an 89:27-30)
